A new global study has ranked the world's 100 smartest cities.

The '2017 Smart Cities Index' surveyed 500 cities worldwide, grading them on their use of big data in public transport, environmental protection, urban planning and a number of other areas.

Copenhagen, Singapore and Stockholm claimed the top three positions, based on their high scores for transport, sustainability and governance.

Interesting to note are Bucharest placing second for internet speed (the top 10 is dominated by US cities), Sweden's Helsingborg ranking first for smart traffic and panama City topping the charts for environmental protection.
